Comprehensive assessment to tap into your child’s general intellectual ability can help you discover their learning deficits and general, challenges at school with reading, difficulty in learning or comprehending arithmetic, numbers, and learning how to manipulate numbers and writing, or their intellectual giftedness. It can also help parents recognize how learning challenges might be affected by attention problems such as hyperactivity and impulsivity. Obtaining an assessment of their cognitive functioning can provide parents with useful information about their child’s overall development and psychological well-being.

There is a range of cognitive functions that assist in your child’s progress; they range from capacities such as sustained attention, self-regulation, planning, learning and memory, to recognize accurately emotions in others. Individuals with such learning disabilities can face challenges pervasive throughout the lifespan. Understanding the type, nature of the disability, and implementing interventions for your child early on helps parents give their child a head start. Such knowledge can also help prep parents to work better with your child’s teachers and schools to create plans together to foster future success of your child.
VISUAL-MOTOR INTEGRATION ASSESSMENT
Assists parents in identifying their child’s difficulties in the area of visual-motor, fine motor skills , and hand-eye coordination. It can help teachers and parents test the learning level and monitor the progress of their child.
ATTENTION DEFICIT ASSESSMENT
Is your child: easily distracted?; too high on energy to focus on homework?: exhibits incessant talking?; makes careless mistakes?; or, is disorganized? Attention and concentration problems in children and teenagers can occur for a variety of reasons and are often misdiagnosed as ADHD. Without testing, some of the best psychologists in Chicago may risk misdiagnosing depression or anxiety as attention-deficit disorder. At first, we offer our clients a screening of both depression and anxiety to rule out mood influences on inattentive behaviors. Following this, we conduct a series of tests to determine the presence of hyperactivity and inactivity and the extent to which they might be due to attention-deficit disorder. When these assessments confirm a diagnosis of ADHD, then an ADHD-specific treatment plan is charted out and intervention can proceed.
ADHD AND ACCOMMODATIONS TESTING
As tests such as the SAT and ACT become more difficult, most students and their families do not realize they need to be diagnosed through testing from a psychologist to document their disability that may be substantially limiting their daily functioning and their ability to take the test. Such accommodations can range from a quiet room, more breaks, and so forth. Seeking such accommodations on entrance exams can be challenging for students with learning disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. We will conduct appropriate tests for attention-deficit disorder, learning disorder evaluations, depression and anxiety screening, intellectual disability assessment to provide a diagnosis, and recommend accommodations for you.
